The effects of the extract and suspension of decomposed stubs on the growth of tomato were studied. The water extract of tomato and aubergine inhibited the growth of tomato embryonic root by 32.59 and 31.85%, respectively, when 5 mg root power was soaked in I ml of water; however, when 25 mg root power was soaked, the embryonic root nearly stopped growing. The decomposed liquids from aubergine and tomato stubs inhibited the growth of tomato embryonic root by more than 36% when applied at high concentrations (diluted with distilled water by 10 multiples and 1 multiple, respectively). Decomposed liquids diluted by 50-fold had no obvious effect on the growth of tomato embryonic root. The water extract and decomposed suspension of tomato stubs inhibited the growth of tomato seedlings in the nutrient solution. In soil mixed with tomato stubs, the early-stage growth of tomato was inhibited and the fresh weight was reduced by more than 50%.
