The growth differences of weeds in stubble fields of 6 wheat cultivars (Changwu 134, Jinmai, Shan 253, Xiaoyan 6, Fengchan 3 and Xiaoyan 22) and 4 wild relatives (Triticum monococcum, T. boeoticum, T. dicoccum and T. dicoccoides), were analysed with an improved method based on the bioassay of inhibitive circle in fields. Preliminary study showed that in stubble fields of wheat materials belonging to related varieties from different or same genotype, the growth of weeds differed significantly, indicating evident variation of alIelopathic genes causing a constant heredity. When the biomass of weeds in the stubble field of Fengchan 3 was considered as the control, the rest almost exhibited certain inhibition on the growth of weeds in counterpart fields. Positive correlation existed in the biomass of weeds in 10 genotypes of wheat stubble fields and the resorting time of remnant stubbles by the analysis of step regression. The effect of stubbles on the growth of weeds was efficient for 3–29 days, after which the weed biomass increased and stabilized.
