The effect of prairie milk vetch (Astragalus adsurgens Pall) root culture filtrates extracts with ethyl acetate was studied by using cultured shoot of Stellera chamejasme L. as receptor. The results showed that virtural propagation, elongation and dry weight accumulation of S. chamaejasme cultured shoot was stimulated by adding 6.4 mg/L extract to the growth media, but the fresh weight accumulation of S. chamaejasme was inhibited. When the extract was added at 3.2, 12.7, 25.4 mg/L, the virtural propagation, elongation and dry weight accumulation of S. chamaejasme cultured shoot was inhibited. The more the extraction was used, the more intensive was the inhibitory effect. This study indicated that the inhibitory or stimulatory effects of prairie milk vetch root culture filtrates extracts with ethyl acetate on S. chamaejasme cultured shoot were due to chemical secretion from the cultured root. It was proved that prairie milk vetch had allelopathic effect on S. chamaejasme.
