Allelopathic potential of Alternanthera philoxeroide, Ipomoea cairica and Spartina alterniflora.

Exotic plant invasion is major issue, involving many factors. The allelopathic potential of many invasive plants have been studied and have proved that allelopathy favours the successful invasion of exotic plants. Hence, we studied the allelopathic potential of exotic invasive plants of South China viz,. Alternanthera philoxeroid, Ipomoea cairica and Spartina alterniflora. Our results demonstrated the allelopthic potential of these three weeds spp. and we concluded that allelopthy might be common weapon of exotic invasive plants in South China.
