This is an overview of natural products with useful bioactivities and unique structures that have potential for use as bioregulators, medicines and herbicides. The following topics are discussed: (1) complete synthesis of insect-related bioactive substances; (2) complete synthesis of marine natural products; (3) and complete synthesis of plant-related bioactive substances. Three models are presented: stereoisomer biosynthesis of the sex pheromone of the German cockroach [Blattella germanica] (topic I), complete synthesis of an abnormal sphingosine and symmetric triterpene (topic 2), and complete synthesis of an allelopathy active substance (topic 3).
