Abstract

Allelochemicals present in L. camara affected the regeneration process in the apical, middle and basal explants of the thallus in the decreasing order of leaf, stem and root extract of the plant. The inhibition of regeneration in different explants of Riccia was found in the decreasing order of apical, basal and middle explants. Root extract of Lantana had little adverse effect on the process of regeneration, while the leaf extract affected the process most adversely. The probable reason may be the higher concentration of allelochemicals in the leaf extract than in stem and root. Maximum regeneration occurred in control and the increase in extract concentration decreased the regeneration.
