Abstract

The allelopathic effects of aqueous leachate of Thespesia populnea bark were investigated on Amaranthus. The leachate even at the lowest concentration (0.2%) inhibited the germination, plant height, number of leaves, dry matter, root length, chlorophyll and total protein content in amaranth plants. The inhibitory effects were concentration dependent i.e. increased with increasing concentrations, suggesting that Thespesia populnea has allelopathic effects.
