Stroke is caused by sudden lack of blood supply to the brain. This leads to impairment in many cognitive functions. However it is important to find out which areas are affected and which cognitive functions are impaired. To ascertain this, a neuropsychological battery of tests was administered to the stroke patients and compared them with normal population selected randomly. The tools used focused on the 9 areas of cognitive functioning and all the functions of the lobes. The patients were duly diagnosed as suffering from stroke, and were divided into three age groups, viz., 50–55, 55–60 and 60–65. The functions were also compared across the three age groups. Results showed that in almost all areas there was impairment in cognitive functioning as well as in the functioning of the lobes. The age groups also showed significant difference. The results of the study could help in planning a rehabilitation programme for the stroke patients.
