In the modern business era banks playing major role in economic transformation.are one It is a largest network of institutions which has become has become a part and parcel of human society. Banks perform a variety of banking and non-banking functions. They carry out of innumerable transaction in a day. In traditional banking system the transactions of a bank involve huge number of paper like maintaining the ledgers, journal, pass books, cheques, drafts, deposit certificates, loan related documents, accounts related papers like, statements, applications, reports etc. Thanks to the E-commerce and computerization banking system that transformed the paper based transactions to electronic based transaction of banking system. However the banking still in the transactional phase of traditional system to most modern digital system. Besides this banks are playing vital role in industrialization. It can do this keeping in mind the development of ecofriendly business environment to ensure sustainability of environment. In this back ground we can aptly say that banks can play a major role in moving it from traditional paper based banking system to paperless banking system and transforming carbon society into carbonless society, most appropriately the green banking system. Against this background the present study discusses some important perspectives =Green Banking’ and its problems in India. The paper is designed with the following objectives. 1. To give a brief note on green banking; 2. To discuss the hurdles of green banking in India; 3. To suggest suitable policy measures to improve green banking in India. The proposed study mainly is descriptive in nature. It solemnly based on secondary sources of data and information which is collected from the related sources as per need of the research.
