Abstract

Health is the key to a long, active and enjoyable life. It is correctly stated that health is the actual wealth that a person can retain. It is the responsibility of individual and also the Governments to provide health care to all people in equal proportions. Ever since India’s independence in 1947, various national health schemes and programmes have been launched with the view to improve the health status of people living in rural areas. The National Rural Health Mission has been described as one of the largest and most ambitious programmes to revive health care in the country. The aim of the NRHM is to bring about improvement in the health system and the health status of the people, especially those who live in rural areas of the country. The mission seeks to provide equitable, affordable and quality health care, as well as to bring about an improvement in the health status of the under privilaged sections of the society, especially women and children. The NHRM covers the entire country with special focus on 18 states. The NRHM has injected new hope into the health care delivery system in India. However, it continues to face diverse challenges, which need to be addressed if its goals are to be achieved in the near future. The main aim of the present study to find out the present status of National Rural Health Mission on the health sector in Karnataka.
