India is a developing country yet it needs to fulfil the socio-economic objectives with effective governance. The emergence of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has improved the functions and role of government. Many scholars have realised the benefits of e-governance and its greater acceptance in all over the world. Based on the review of literature this paper summarises the recent issues and challenges in e-governance development. The following key issues were identified and addressed: E-governance for development, E-governance service delivery from a citizen perspective, E-governance services vs. manual services, reason for failure of e-governance in developing countries. Citizen's trust and privacy, good governance, the main objectives of this study proved very helpful in developing theoretical base.
