Mahatma Gandhi was a great prophet, a saint, a religious preacher, a social reformer, a non-violent revolutionary or shrewd politician and a utopian. Gandhi's entry in the National Movement transformed the political situation in India. He adopted both the techniques of moderates and extremists. His unique methods like non-violence, Satyagraha, trusteeship etc. He regarded religion and morality as synonymous. He himself said that he wore the guise of a politician at heart and he was a religious man. Gandhiji made no differentiation between means and ends. According to him, they are correlative terms. He opposed the artificial division of human acts into two parts, means and ends. Gandhiji gave his specific views in ideal society. According to him, ideal society is conceivable when there was political, economic and moral independence Gandhiji stood as a champion of the rights of the racially humiliated, colonially subjugated and economically dispossessed humanity at large. Civil disobedience signifies the resister‘s outlawry in a civil non-violent manner. He wanted peace with justice and non-violence. Peace can be established on permanent basis. He advocated Satyagraha as the main weapon of combating inter-state aggression.
