Decentralised governance: An imperative of good governance

Abstract

Good Governance and decentralised governance are considered as a tool for sustainable development. Equitable distribution of wealth and income, providing opportunities to people in governing process, protecting the self-respect and dignity of the people, especially the women and children etc., are the main thrust areas in Decentralised Governance. Many classical thinkers, including Thiruvalluvar, stressed the need for good governance and corruption free administration in order to achieve socio-political and economic objectives. Decentralised Governance is a new concept aims to achieve the goal of human development through peoples participation, inculcating ethical values among people, political and administrative agencies etc., This article examined the efforts taken by the Indian government for facilitating the process of decentralized governance.
