Abstract

Education is the process of facilitating learning, acquiring knowledge and skills that people are expected to have in the society. It empowers the people of a nation to become active participants in the transformation of their country. It gives them a knowledge of the world in which they are living. It develops a perspective of looking at life. It helps us build and think in multiple ways of life. It is the most important field for the development of any country. It reduces poverty, boosts economic growth, and increases the wealth of a nation. It is of vital importance for any country as it builds knowledge-based society for generations and generations. The objective of the present paper is to identify the opportunities available for higher education, trace out the challenges to improve the higher education in India. Besides that, the paper also makes few suggestions which may bring some change in the scenario of higher education and also in taking the nation to the first place in higher education sector.
