Abstract

Even though there are certain constitutional guarantees and policy provisions to protect the rights of under privileged sections in India, still those rights and policy provisions are not accessible to those communities. Even the governments are not giving priority to safeguard these sections through proper implementation of the constitutional provisions. This grim situation has been witnessed through successive governments in independent India. The most vulnerable community among other sections in Indian social system is Scheduled Tribes. The exclusion of these communities in multiple issues has been resulting in further deterioration of their social, political, cultural and economic life while comparing with the other sections. The current paper makes an attempt to understand how the rights of scheduled tribes have been systematically ignored in India. The observation made in this paper is based on the existing literature and research.
