Abstract

Nutrition is the vital point of health and well-being, Productivity and ultimately to the national growth. Malnutrition in India continues to be at a high level with 38 percent children below the age being underweight and almost 70 percent being anemic. 22 percent children are born with low birth weight and 45.4 percent of pregnant women of reproductive age are anemic due to the low quality food grains given to them. To ameliorate the situation, the government of India has developed Far the major nutrition supplementation program that the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). ICDS was launched in 1975 in agreement to the National Policy for Children in India. ICDS Scheme was started in Karnataka on 2nd October 1975. The main goal of The ICDS scheme is a government initiative for the all-round development (health, nutrition and education) of children under 6. Main Objectives of ICDS Scheme to improve the nutritional & health status proper physical, psychological and emotional development, and reduce incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition of children (0–6 years). To support achieve its aims Immunization, Supplementary nutrition, Health checkup, Referral services, Pre-school non formal education, and Nutrition and Health information. The study has used on secondary data, which is collected from government records. This analysis it is initiate that the ICDS scheme is Karnataka has exposed positive impact on child and women health and nutrition. This study also suggests methods to improve the ICDS in areas particularly where poor children are found more in Karnataka.
