Role of hindu religious maths in eradicating social problems

Abstract

In the present study an attempt is made to understand the role of Hindu religious maths in eradicating the social evils and strategies adapted by them. A total of 120 respondents comprising of 60 math officials and 60 devotees/beneficiaries were randomly selected from Bangalore City. They were administered a semi structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. The data collected thus were analysed using chi-square and Cramer's V tests. Results revealed that as per the opinions of the of math officials and devotees/beneficiaries, maths have involved in eradication of social evils like divorce to the extent of 64.2%, drug and substance abuse to the extent of 61.7% on higher side. Maths have involved in the eradication of social evils of child labour (26.7%), women harassment (23.3%), criminalization (40.0%), and domestic violence (46.7%) to a lesser extent. When the techniques adapted by maths to tackle social evils are considered, 71.7% indicated training programmes, 70.8% of them considered mass marriages, and 59.2% of them opined orphanages. On a lesser extent, techniques adapted by maths to tackle social evils are old age homes (20.0%), 18.3% widow remarriages and 14.2% destitute homes.
