This paper examines the challenges before Sports Authority of India (SAI) towards bringing about a sports culture in India. The Sports scene in India is too youthful and energetic as India comprises of 65% of the youthful population. Sporting activities have evolved as a new interest amongst the youth and millions of youth are following various sporting activities with professionalism. But even though there are umpteen numbers of sporting talents across the country, there are shortfalls in identifying genuine sporting talents and shortfalls in sports policy. Several sporting activities suffer from finding rights talents at the right time. Sports Authority of India which is a premier Sports organization on India is faced by several challenges in unleashing a sports culture. In India sports comes under state subject and central government can only support the initiatives pronounced by the various state governments. Sports organization of India has come up with several schemes to promote sports culture in India, still there are lacuna in sports sector, and there is a need for optimizing support to younger talents and help sports culture prevail. The Sports in India is yet to become a profession for youth and following liberalization of economic policies there are plenty of opportunities for young talents to involve with as the number of sporting events are on the rise. The time is very opportune to make the sports culture reign in the 21st century by concentrating on solid sports policy.
