Community heritage management & historical awareness - Emerging trends

This paper highlights the role of community in conserving historical properties and heritage items and underlines the need for providing basic knowledge to all community stake holders about the connotation of the heritage, conservation policies, and the impact of heritage on community living. There is a need for creation of awareness about heritage and conservation through a cautious examination of the key imperatives behind tradition and legacy of the region. Conservation policies that are developed or ruling regarding the retention of significance needs a review because conservation strategies go a long way in bonding the community and its traditional inheritance. This will create innumerable opportunities for community to consider approaches for using heritage significance in a positive way for future posterity. Besides this will make them become of aware of constraints or inappropriate development of any historical item in their region.
