Academic achievement of pre-university students in relation to parental encouragement

Abstract

The present study aims to find out the relationship between academic achievement and parental encouragement of Pre-University students. For the present study descriptive survey method was adopted. Representative sample of 120 pre-university students were selected randomly from two Pre-University colleges of Hunsur. Agarwal Parental Encouragement Scale (APES) by Kusum Agarwal (1999) was used to collect the data. Result show that parental encouragement is positively related to academic achievement of pre-university students. The study also reveals that, there is no significant difference in academic achievement and parental encouragement of Arts and Commerce Pre-University students. But, there is a significant difference in Arts and Science & Commerce and Science Pre-University students with respect to academic achievement and Parental encouragement.
