Abstract

Since the advent of Self Help Groups (SHG) and Microfinance(MF) in the '90s, they havecome to play a major role in many gender and development strategies because oftheir direct relationship to financial inclusion, poverty alleviation and the empowerment of women. Women are the most crucial elements of the social fabric and are playing a pivotal role in the socio-economic scenario of Karnataka. Microfinance programs for Self Help Help(SHGs) in India have been promoted for their positive economic impact and the belief that they empower women. The survey was conducted on around 50 respondents from various SHGs of Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts of Karnataka and the analysis was done for identifying the empowerment of women through microfinance. The result stronglydemonstrates that on average, there is a significant increase in women empowerment of the Self Help Groups members..
