The present study investigated whether the rational-emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) has any impact on depression of patients with Major Thalassaemia. The sample consisted of 36 subjects (in two groups) whom refer to the center of blood donation in Ahvaz city in Iran. After the pretest of two groups, the intervention by REBT was given to the experimental group for 36 days (12 sessions) and at the end of intervention, again the depression of patients evaluated by Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Analysis of two independent samples T test between experimental and control groups have shown that there is no significant difference between two groups in depression before intervention but after intervention two groups are significantly different. Analyses of data between pre test and post test by paired sample T test has shown that REBT was highly effective in reducing depression in experimental group. Regarding to consequences of the study, it revealed that rational-emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) as a treatment can reduce the depression of patients with major thalassemia.
