Effectiveness of Yoga therapy in change the brain waves of ADHD children

Abstract

ADHD is common neurobehavioral disorder in primary school and timely treatment of this disorder, is a substantial contribution to the academic success of their children and family mental health. Now a day. Psycho stimulant medications are generally the first choice in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Approximately 70% of the children treated show improvement in the primary attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder symptoms and About 30% of children and adolescents with this disorder may not respond to stimulants or may be unable to tolerate potential adverse events such as decreased appetite, mood liability and sleep disturbances. Yoga as a common alternative medication is a scientific system of physical postures, breathing exercises and deep relaxation techniques designed to balance the body's energies and to promote mental, physical and spiritual health. The Main purpose of this research was specify effectiveness of Yoga therapy as a alternative treatment in changing of the brain waves and finally in treatment of ADHD. This research is semi-empirical and subjects were 12 primary school students in Boushehr city - Iran. Tools have been used for data collection were Vanderbilt CSI-4 (DSM-IVR 2008) and Electroencephalography. And Independent t-Test was used for analysis of data. Result show that of Yoga therapy in change the brain waves and modification of ADHD are follows Asana increased (t = -4.29 P<.0005) - Pranayama Techniques (t = 6.57 P<. 0005) Relaxation Techniques(t= 5.60 p< 0005) -Meditation Techniques (t = 4.96 p<.0001 So there was significance difference between CSI-4 score before and after the Yoga therapy in three types of ADHD it's means that Yoga therapy has acceptable Effectiveness in decreasing of symptoms in hyperactivity, inattentive and also combined type.
