The relationship of need to act based on religious beliefs, with mental health and identity formation among university's students

Abstract

The present study has investigated the relationship of need to act based on religious beliefs with mental health and identity formation in the girl and boy students of Behabahan Azad University.

The Target population was all of girl and boy students of Behbahan Azad University. 280 of which were selected by the random stratified sampling technique. The following questionnaires were used to collect the data: Need to act on the religious beliefs (Navidi, 1997); Mental health scale (ASCL-25, Najarian, 2000); and Benion and Adam's Identity states (1986). To analyze data statistical methods such as mean, standard deviation, Pearson's coefficient correlation, and Independent t-test were used. Results showed that:

There is a significant relationship between need to act on the religious beliefs and mental health in boys (r=/65) and girls (r=/58). (P</1).

There is a significant relationship between need to act on the religious beliefs and identity formation in boys (r=/34) and girls(r=/32) (p</1).

There is a significant different between the need to act on the religious beliefs in the girl and boy students (t= 2.21; p</5).

There are no significant differences between mental health and identity formation in the girls and boys.
