This paper is a study of history of linguistics, in which the structure of languages in general is explored. During this study I have been able to throw light non the structure of language which is a very new concept in the 20th century. The primary focus of this paper is to demonstrate the two categories of linguistics where the theoretical linguistics focuses on the various levels of linguistics and the experimental or applied linguistics show how the various findings can be applied and the interdisciplinary characteristic of the field of linguistics is understood. The study points out the importance of linguistics and the social side of the languages and how in a practical way it can be used to connect many disciplines.
