Abstract

The present study is on assessment of extent of adjustment in emotional, social and total adjustment of male and female students belonging to different castes in and around Mysore city. A total of 490 adolescents (233 male and 257 female) studying in various high schools in and around the Mysore city were selected randomly as sample respondents. They were administered AICS (Adjustment Inventory for College Students) developed by Sinha and Singh (1968). The data was analysed through MANOVA technique using SPSS for windows software. Results revealed that SC/ST and GM students found to have similar levels of adjustment in emotional, social and total adjustment. Areawise comparison revealed that students from urban area found to be well adjusted than students from rural areas. Gender-wise comparison indicated that male and female students had similar levels of adjustment and in emotional adjustment female students belonging to SC/St category well adjusted and among GM, male students were well adjusted
