Abstract

The present reports effects of shyness on subjective wellbeing among adolescents in and around Mysore city. A total of 498 adolescents with studying in urban and rural areas around Mysore city were selected for the present study. They were administered Shyness Assessment Test (D'Souza, 2006) and happiness Scale (Ryff, 1989) in one setting. The adolescents were classified into three levels of shynesslow, medium and high, based on their scores on SAT. One way ANOVA was employed to find out the difference between adolescents with low, medium and high levels of shyness for their psychological wellbeing scores. Results revealed that adolescents with different levels of shyness had similar scores on psychological wellbeing scores both in total scores and individual areas of wellbeing-Autonomy, Environmental mastery, Personal growth, Positive relations with others, Purpose in life, and Self acceptance.
