Abstract

This Paper deals with trends and patterns of human development in the global, India and Karnataka level. According to the UNDP, human development may be defined as “a process of enlarging people's choices.” At all levels of development, the three essential choices for people are, to live a long and healthy life, to acquire better knowledge and to have access to resources needed for a decent standard of living. The human development in the India his improved by 21 per cent between 1999–2000 and 2007-8 from 0.387 to 0.467, which is above the national average. By 2001, all the 27 districts of the state were in medium human development group.
