Abstract

Water is very precious commodity on earth, covering about 70–75% of earth's surface in the form of lakes, rivers, seas, oceans, and ground water. However, pure sources of drinking water form a small miniscule. It is necessary to maintain the quality of water to sustain all forms of life, especially human life. However, due to various activities of man towards progress in living standards and comfort, the water bodies get polluted quickly and easily. Hence, a constant monitoring of water quality, specially that which is used for drinking and domestic purpose is essential. The present study investigates the water quality parameters like pH, electrical conductivity, total hardness, presence of cations (Na+, Ca+, Mg2+) and anions (NO3, SO42-, PO43-) and heavy metals such as Cr, Zn, Cd, Fe in three selected locations of Kharghab river water flowing through a small town, Qudejan, in Iran.
