Assistant Professor,
Nature has given man two related characters-first as individual and then as social or societal being. Men prefer to leave in society since they know that society safeguards majority of their interest. Since man prefers to leave inside the society he has to conform to their norms set by the society without causing disturbance or violating the freedom of other people. With the passage of time these natural rights or established customs found an expression in natural law. The most outstanding theories of human rights are: The ‘Theory of Natural Rights’, ‘The Legal Theory of Rights’, ‘The Socialist Welfare Theory of Rights’, ‘The Idealist Theory of Rights’ and ‘The Historical Theory of Rights’. The purpose of education is to give people enhanced awareness, greater openness, the courage to question and perseverance in searching for solutions. The goal of initial education is to equip one with basic minimum levels of knowledge, attitudes, values and skills to start one's life journey. Historically, education is an instrument of development and a factor of social change. Hence, human rights education must be offered to all human beings without any discrimination. Human Rights Education is education about and also for the human rights. Teaching people how to respect and protect rights is teaching for human rights.
