This paper attempts to analyze the implications of the Supreme Court verdict on the language of education i.e., Medium of Instruction (MI). The legal tussle of two decades as a run up to the verdict, the major points the verdict touches upon, and the response to the verdict is analysed. The paper juxtaposes the preference for English as a MI and the demand for Kannada as a MI in the State. The paper attempts to unearth the nuances that MI has enveloped within itself. The right of a parent/child to choose a MI and the compulsion of the State to impose a MI is read dispassionately.
