Roles and Responsibility of the National Institute for the Empowerment of person with Intellectual Disabilities in India: A Study

Abstract

The Indian Government supports various programmes to empower PWD. Therefore, the government pays particular attention to people with intellectual disabilities, including special education, career opportunities, etc. One of the main organisations initiated by the Indian Government for People with Mental Disabilities is the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID). This organisation provides assistance for the community, rehabilitation, education, career development, medical care, etc. This paper made an attempt to study the functions and duties of the PID in NIEPID. The NIEPID plays a key role in special education classes, research development, advanced technology, etc. Their essential duties are to help them learn the special education system and provide the PID with activities for skills development.
