The article analyzes the possibilities of using literary texts in German lessons at universities. The reading style is taken into account, principles of the selection of literary texts, the meaning of the pre-text and post-text are revealed. The texts focus on practicing grammatical structures and new words, as well as listening and reading. Texts, whether synthetic, authentic, have an “instrumental character” and mostly serve as an application of grammar and as a means to achieve a specific linguistic purpose. You read a text for different reasons and with different goals. It has to do with reading interest.
