The article describes the data on the use of medicinal leeches in the treatment and prevention of blood clots and the effectiveness of hirudin in varicose veins of the lower extremity. The article also contains information on the mechanism of action of hirudin at all stages of coagulation and the anticoagulant system of the body. The result of the effect of hirudin on already formed blood clots is shown.
