Gender disparity in literacy: A block wise analysis in kaimur District, Bihar

Abstract

In spite of various plans and policies made by the Government to improve literacy of our country, particularly among women, the gap between male and female literacy still exist. In this research paper, an effort has been made to analyze the distribution of literacy and gender disparity in literacy in Kaimur district of Bihar. The present study is primarily based on secondary sources of data. Sopher Index has been used to measure gender disparity in literacy. The study reveals that there is a huge gap between male and female literacy. Furthermore, the paper has explained to examine the possible reasons responsible for the existence of any such disparities in literacy level and also give some suitable suggestions to bridge the gap between the privileged and unprivileged section of the society.
