The present study assessed the effect of structured teaching programme (STP) on knowledge and practice regarding effect of chair exercise for hemiplegic patients among second year BSc Nursing students at a selected nursing college at Thiruvalla.
The objectives were to assess the pre-test level of knowledge and practice of second year BSc nursing students regarding effect of chair exercise for hemiplegic patients and to assess the effectiveness of STP in terms of knowledge and practice scores.
Samples were selected using simple random sampling and one group pre-test-post-test design was used. A structured questionnaire was prepared to determine the pre-test knowledge of second year BSc Nursing students on chair exercise and a pre-checklist was prepared to assess the pre practice knowledge. STP was administered on the effect of chair exercise for hemiplegic patients. The same questionnaire and practice checklist were utilized to evaluate the effect of structured teaching programme.
Analysis of data was done by using descriptive statistics. The overall mean of pre-test knowledge score was 5.9 and practice score was 1.75. The overall mean of post- test knowledge score was 18.67 and practice score was 16.52. The structured teaching programme was effective with a mean difference of knowledge score 12.77 and mean difference of practice score is 14.97.
The finding of study prove that there is significant difference between the pre-test knowledge and practice score and post-test knowledge and practice score regarding the effect chair exercise for hemiplegic patients among second year BSc Nursing students and STP is effective.
