Polycystic ovarian syndrome is the most common gynecological endocrinopathy. Polycystic ovarian syndrome appears to be associated with an increased risk of metabolic aberrations, including insulin resistance and hyperinsulinism, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease, and endometrial carcinoma It is commonly diagnosed in young women with anovulatory infertility, oligomenorrhea or hyperandogenic problems such as hirsutism and acne. Although associated with obesity, the syndrome is also frequently seen in women of normal body conformation.
The main objective to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching program on knowledge regarding Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and related Infertility among female students in Isabella Thoburn College, Lucknow.
A quantitative evaluative research approach, Pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test research design was used. The sample size was 100 female students were selected using simple random sampling technique. Initially the researcher got permission from concerned authority of Isabella Thoburn College. The written consent was obtained from samples. The tool used were, performa of demographical variable, self-structured knowledge questionnaire. Assessment of pre-existing level of knowledge done by administering knowledge questionnaire after that on same day structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding polycystic ovarian syndrome and related infertility given. After 7 days post-test was conducted by the researcher.
The result of the study revealed that there was significant difference between the mean pre-test (13.69) and post-test (32.05) knowledge scores it denotes that increased knowledge level after intervention.
The study concluded that the Structured Teaching Programme was effective in enhancing knowledge of female students about polycystic ovarian syndrome and that was more effective and beneficial for them.
