Marriage is a social institution that unites people in a special form of mutual dependence for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family. As a social practice entered into through a public act, religious or traditional ceremony, it reflects the purposes, character, and customs of the society in which it is found. Having perceived the global burden of early marriage, the present study was taken “to identify the determinants and assess knowledge of married women regarding biosocial consequences of early marriage in selected rural area of Bhilai, (C.G)” Objectives of the study were to Identify the determinants of early marriage ,to assess the knowledge of married women regarding biosocial consequences of early marriage,to associate the knowledge of married women regarding biosocial consequences of early marriage with selected socio demographic variables, to create awareness regarding consequences of early marriage with the help of CDROM.A pilot study was conducted among 8 married women to refine methodology and to find the feasibility of the study. Non-probability purposive sampling was done and 50 subjects were selected. The tool used for data collection consisted of a self-structured interview schedule The contributing factors of early marriage were found out by using percentage analysis and the findings revealed that family pressure, religious belief, caste ,illiteracy, low socio economic status , myths related to marriage, are the determinants of early marriage.Area wise analysis of knowledge score revealed that there was knowledge deficit in maximum areas related to biosocial consequences like ill effects on reproductive health, maternal and child health issues, the findings also revealed that there was significant association between knowledge level with selected socio demographic variable such as age of the subjects, their educational status, educational status of father, type of family
