Rabies is a preventable viral disease most often transmitted through bite of a rabid animal. It causes thousands of death every year mainly in Asia and Africa, 40% of whom are children under 15 years of age. Dogs are the main source of human rabies death contributing up to 99% of all rabies transmission to humans. A quasi experimental study to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching awareness programme on rabies and management of dog bite among students of selected High School in Kottayam District, Kerala, was conducted by III year B.sc nursing students, group I for the partial fulfilment of requirement of bachelor of science in nursing, during 2022-2023.The study was conducted with the aim to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme regarding rabies and management of dog bite. Quantitative research approach was adopted. The study was conducted in a selected school in Kottayam district. Convenient sampling technique was used to select 36 samples. Standardized tool was used for data collection. Data collection was done in the month of June 2023. The data were collected, analyzed and interpreted in accordance with objectives using descriptive and inferential statistics. Pre-test knowledge level of students regarding rabies and management of dog bite. Among 36 samples 38.9% were poor, 61.1% were average none of them are good. Post test conducted after structured teaching programme and it is showed 2.8% were poor, 33.3% were average, 63.9% were good. The result shown that post test mean percentage was 75% which is higher than mean pre-test knowledge 39.6%. Planned teaching programme was found effective as the paired t There is no association between demographic variables and knowledge regarding rabies and management of dog bite except previous information about rabies vaccine.
