The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of breast feeding on pain response in infants during immunizing intramuscular injection.
The researcher employed a quasi-experimental design with evaluative approach. A total of 120 infants receiving D.P.T vaccine were randomly distributed into control and experimental group. Post vaccination behavior of infants was scored in NIPS.
There were statistically significance differences in facial expression, cry, breathing pattern, arms, legs and state of arousal between the experimental group and the control group.
It was concluded that the perception of pain intensity is less among infants when I.M. vaccine is administered during breast feeding.
