Abstract

India is an agricultural country and exposure to animals is quite high. Brucellosis is an important but neglected emerging endemic zoonotic communicable disease and it has been reported in almost all the states of India. Prevention of human Brucellosis should be focused mainly on the elimination of infection in animals and humans.

To evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding Bucellosis and its prevention among cattle farmers and to find out the association between pre-test knowledge score and selected demographic variables.

50 cattle farmers who are resided in the rural areas at Mangalore taluk.

Pre experimental one group pretest and posttest design.

Samples were selected by non-probability convenient sampling technique. Cattle farmers knowledge was assessed by using structured interview schedule.

The mean percentage of pre-test knowledge score was 33.50%, whereas post-test knowledge score was 75.28% (tcal = 33.18, table value t(49)= 1.677, p<0.05) which shows highly significant difference between the mean pre-test and post-test knowledge scores of cattle farmers regarding Brucellosis and its prevention. And there was no significant association between pre-test knowledge score and selected demographic variables.

The findings of the study showed that the structured teaching programme was effective in all the areas in improving the knowledge of Brucellosis and its prevention, among cattle farmers in selected rural areas at Mangalore taluk.
