Abstract

Halitosis, or bad breath, is a common oral health issue that can negatively impact a person's social and psychological well-being. The treatment of halitosis often involves the use of mouthwashes, chewing gums, and other oral care products. However, preprobiotics and natural ingredients prescribed in Ayurveda have gained popularity as effective treatments for halitosis. Preprobiotics can be effective in treating halitosis by improving the balance of oral bacteria and reducing the growth of odor-causing bacteria. Ayurvedic ingredients such as fennel, clove, cinnamon, neem, and triphala have antimicrobial properties that can help to kill bacteria in the mouth and freshen breath. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the use of preprobiotics and Ayurvedic ingredients in the treatment of halitosis.
