Abstract

Banking plays vital role in the economic development. Technology too plays a key role in making the banking and financial services accessible by the customers. The performance of banks in an economy depends on many factors. Due to liberalization, privatization and globalization, banks in India have tough time to focus on their performance on multi dimensions such as, deposits and its growth, advances and its growth, operating profit and its growth, increase in market share, capital adequacy, debt/equity ratio, advances to assets, NPA and its growth, NPA to total assets, NPA to advances, dividend payout ratio, and other parameters to sustain and grow in the competitive market.

The authors have made a comparative study on the performance between the top three Indian public sector banks and the top three Indian private sector banks to explore whether public sector banks transforming themselves in to performance oriented.
