Abstract

Globalisation has stimulated many financial innovations and has thrown tremendous opportunities and threats before the financial sector. The financial sector and more specifically the banking sector is very sensitive to these changes. The “winds of change” has transformed the traditional” brick and mortor’ banks to that of “core banking”. But the status of automation in the banks in the nation is not uniform.

In a CBS (core banking solution) environment there exist a complicated and complex network system. The intruders are always on the lookout for loopholes in the system, so that they can penetrate it unlawfully. The banking sector has become prone to such intrusive and destructive attacks.

The paper is a humble attempt to study the implementation of security measures and their upgradation by the banks for the prevention of unauthorised usage and access to a banks network. It also tries to study the awareness of the bank customers about maintaining the secrecy of their codes to avoid crime. The area taken for the study, as a sample is Guwahati, the capital of Assam. Data have been collected from both primary sources and secondary sources.
