Abstract

Pulp and paper industries by and large contribute to the economic growth of our country. However, it causes threat to ecological balance through its discharging of large volumes of organics/inorganics into the water bodies and soil environment. These toxic effluents from pulp and paper industries frame one of the major sources of pollutant bodies. The present study is focussed on the analyzing Physico -chemical parameters, toxic metal concentrations [Pb(II), Cu(II), Cr(VI), Zn(II)] of the paper mill effluents discharged from industries located at Pollachi, Udumalpet and Sathyamangalam of Tamil Nadu, India. The parametric values registered notable deviations from permissible limits [CPCB standards] and showed variations in their metal concentrations during the four seasons, reflecting the adverse impact of the toxicants loaded in the mill outlets.
