Abstract

The present study reports the photo rearrangement of 5-bromo-3(5′-bromo-2′-nitrophenyl)-2,1-benzisoxazoles in acidic medium. Irradiation of 5,5′-dibromo-2,2′-dinitrodiphenylmethane (BNDPM, 1) in acidified ethanol affords 5-bromo3(5′-bromo-2′-nitrophenyl)-2,1-benzisoxazoles (BBNB, 2). The irradiation of 5-bromo-3(5′-bromo-2′-nitrophenyl)2,1-benzisoxazoles (BBNB, 2) in acidic ethanol affords 2,9-dibromodibenzo [c,f][1,2]diazepin-11-one-5-oxide (DBDAO, 3), 2,7-dibromo acridone (DBA, 4), 2,9-dibromo dibenzo[c,f][1,2] diazepin-11-one-5,6-dioxide (DBDADO, 5) and 2,7-dibromo-N-hydroxy acridone (DBNHA, 6). A possible mechanism is suggested for the photo reaction. The chemical structure of these compounds is confirmed by UV-visible and FTIR spectroscopic analysis.
