Simple, novel, sensitive and specific spectrophotometric methods were developed and validated for the determination of Losartan potassium. The proposed methods were based on the interaction of the drug with MBTH in the presence of an oxidizing agent, ceric ammonium sulphate; an intensely colored chromogen was formed that was measured in ethanol as the diluting solvent at 665 nm. And the other method is Extractive spectroscopy by using Napthol Blue Black as a chromogen; an intensely colored chromogen, [which was extracted with chloroform] was formed that was measured at 590 nm. All variables (Beers law limits, accuracy, precision, linearity, sensitivity, molar absorptivity) affecting the development of the measured chromogen were studied and optimized.
