Condensation of triethyleneteteramine with p-methyl benzaldehyde gives a novel quadridentate (N4) Schiff's base ligand. The complexes of this ligand with metal ions Fe(II),Ni(II) and Cu(II) have been synthesized. The Cu(II), Ni(II) complexes are square planar and the Fe(II) complex of the ligand has octahedral geometry. They have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, and IR, UV-Visible and thermal studies. Their ligand field parameters (Dq) and ligand field stabilization energy (LFSE) also have been calculated.
