Abstract

The photocatalytic degradation of Amido Black-10B (AB-10B) a non-biodegradable azodye has been investigated over nitrogen doped TiO2 (N-TiO2) photocatalyst irradiated with a light source stimulating solar light. Modification of the chemical structure of titanium dioxide by non metal element (N) allows moving the photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide towards visible light. The particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction and SEM with EDAX analysis. The effect of operational parameters such as dye concentration, photocatalyst content, pH of the solution and incident light energy on the degradation rate of aqueous solution of AB-10B has been examined. Results showed that the employment of efficient photocatalyst and the selection of optimal operational parameters may lead to complete degradation and to substantial decrease of chemical oxygen demand of the dye solutions.
