Abstract

A simple, accurate, cost effective and reproducible spectrophotometric method has been developed for the estimation of atenolol in tablets. The method was based on the formation of colored chromogen (vanilline). The λ-max of atenolol was found to be 650nm to both crude and marketed sample and is analyzed using the beerlamberts law. The percentage of recovery of atenolol ranged from (99.5 ± 0.16) in pharmaceutical dosage form. The developed method was validated with respect to linearity, accuracy (recovery), precision and specificity. Beers law was obeyed in the concentration range of 2–10μg/ml having line equation Y=0. 2071C-0.0043 with a correlation coefficient of 0.9999. The results of the analysis were validated statistically and by recovery study.
